Le Parc Lumière
MALBA - Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, Argentina

This exhibition of historical works from the Daros Latinamerica Collection, Zurich, presented a series of kinetic light experiments, mainly from the 1960s, by Argentina’s Julio Le Parc (*1928).

On show were 17 installations, displayed in two of the museum’s exhibition rooms, which together cover a total area of 10,000 square feet.

In the 1960s, Le Parc and his colleagues from the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel (GRAV) proposed a break with the prevailing artistic tradition of painting, turning instead to a conception of art as dynamic. Le Parc wanted to create works in perpetual transformation and instability. His scientific-mechanical research resulted in interesting, random plays of light and shadow, in which the viewer’s presence and participation completes the work of art.
